Summary: Yunho isn't perfect. And that's what Jaejoong loves about him.

Yunho is perfect because Jaejoong says he is.
It’s a self-centered thing to believe, but Jaejoong’s always been kind of self-centered.
The crooked teeth. The too-skinny arms. The scars that marred the face. The insecure 16-year-old boy who thought these were flaws. He saw it all and he loved it all before anyone else.
He loves it because behind those scars, that lanky frame, all of those insignificant imperfections, is a boy who has suffered too much, too early in life. A boy, who despite that, still finds the strength to keep going.
Most of the time.
“What if I can’t do this?” Yunho asks the night before their debut. His voice shakes and his hand, rough from evenings spent laboring for others, squeezes Jaejoong’s as they lie together on his small bed.
“Don’t say stupid things,” Jaejoong scolds him. He’d pushed his way into his leader’s bunk earlier in the night; his nerves and excitement kept his brain too busy for sleep.
“I’m not like you, Jaejoong-ah. I don’t have your voice or your looks. If this doesn’t work out, I—”
“Of course it’ll work out.”
Yunho ignores him. “I’ll have nothing. Nothing but my father’s anger to go back home to.”
“You’ll always have Dong Bang Shin Ki, even if we’re the only ones who remember that name.”
Jaejoong can feel Yunho inch closer. “You promise?” he whispers in the dark.
“No,” Jaejoong answers bluntly. He can hear Yunho’s breath catch. “But, you’ll always have me. And really, what more do you need?”
The other boy turns into him and Jaejoong can feel him smile against his cheek. “I can’t think of much else.”
Jaejoong runs his fingers in Yunho’s hair and loops a silky lock around his finger. “There isn’t anything else,” he mumbles while giving a small tug.
He hears his leader laugh and a warm feeling he can’t explain radiates from his heart and down to his fingertips. He touches the other’s cheek and wonders if he can feel it too.
“Go to sleep, Yunho-yah. You have a big day tomorrow.”
“Thank you, Jaejoongie. For being here.”
Jaejoong doesn’t reply. He simply pulls Yunho toward him and waits for him to sleep. He listens as his breath slows, each inhale and exhale growing further and further apart. He presses his ear against the other’s neck, until he can feel his pulse—steady and strong—underneath his skin.
He’s spent many nights marveling over the wonder that is this simple country boy, and tomorrow, he’ll have to share him with the world.
Yunho is beautiful. Yunho was always beautiful. Jaejoong knows this. He just prays the rest of the world sees it, too.
A/N: I should be writing "The Hours That Are Passed." Can we consider this a warm-up?
